CBI Build - Project Management
Proper management of a project will determine its success.
Project management is a tough skill to learn. In addition to your technical expertise, you need to master the strategic thinking skills necessary to “see” beyond the technical detail to the end result of the project and the business value it will create. You need planning skills, budgeting skills and all of it must be wrapped with effective communication styles that you can adapt to a myriad of audiences; executives, team members, technical specialists, line managers and many more. The consistently effective project manager makes effective assignments to team members and can motivate to high levels of performance even when they have a number of other assignments and a “real” job. There’s math too. You need to master the estimating process both for the overall budget and duration as well as for scheduling individual people and their assignments.
Building a technology infrastructure is no easy task. We have project managed hundreds of implementations over our 15 years in business.
We have developed the CBI way:
- Have a plan to work from.
- Clearly agree on what work will be done and when.
- Make a calendar of realistic deadlines.
- Plan for delays.
- Constant communication (Follow up, Follow up, Follow up).
- Get it in writing. Always.
- Never promise what you cannot deliver without a miracle.
