We Are Masters of the New Technology
Computer Breakthrough has been delivering high-quality information technology guidance, products, and services to progressive businesses for over
sixteen years.
At Computer Breakthrough, we partner with our clients to help them create the information technology systems that best fit their business needs and goals.
From LAN to WAN, from intranet to Internet, we understand that to survive means to change. We understand the new approaches to digital business and enjoy helping companies plan, build and manage solid solutions to help them grow.
Our Mission
Computer Breakthrough is a best-of-breed provider of services and products to companies seeking to use technology for maximum benefit.
Let's dissect what this statement means to our clients:
- "best-of-breed". The professionals at Computer Breakthrough work diligently to understand and master the market-leading technologies. We are technology experts and constantly strive for the highest quality-of-service level.
- "services". The correct use of technology is now critical to the success of most companies. Thus, Computer Breakthrough is positioned in its client base as one of the three 'trusted advisors' that every progressive company needs: a good accounting firm, a good legal firm, and a good information technology firm.
- "products". The backbone of information technology is tangible items like wire, switches, servers, and workstations. We help our clients plan, build and manage the technology system that is right for them.
- "maximum benefit". One of the key phrases in our vocabulary is 'Return On Investment'. We believe that every technology project needs to be measured by the economic and psychological value it will provide to a company, and that expert advice should be employed when doing such measurements.
Methodology and Approach
Going by the Book
Sure, we are often brought into a project that has some history or problems and requires our insight and expertise to get back on track. Indeed, the word 'Breakthrough' in our name implies that we come up with solutions by nature.
But while we are quite capable of entering a project at any point in its lifecycle and adding value, the ideal time to employ professional assistants like those at Computer Breakthrough is before the problems arise. When we come into a project at its inception we have the opportunity to employ our proven project model for the benefit of our client:
- Plan - define a digital strategy
- Build - put together the digital infrastructure
- Manage - make sure the digital structure is working
Step 1 - Plan - define a digital strategy
Successful technology projects almost always take advantage of a solid technology plan. (Would you want to build a house without a blueprint?)
When Computer Breakthrough creates a digital strategy, we usually employ several steps:
- Value focused re-engineering: Darwin concluded that it is not the strongest or the one that is most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change that survives. Today that equates to the fastest to adapt survive. In today's fast pace economy it is not the big fish that eat the small fish it is the fast that eat the slow. We give you a road map for what you must do to be faster so that you can provide more goods and services to your customers.
- Strategic technology plan: A written technology plan details and schedules targeted technology initiatives. This is a forward-looking document that describes a company's desired future architecture and systems, and lists the steps to get there from the current architecture. A technology plan references one or more project plans necessary for its fulfillment.
- Transition Plan: Given the complex nature of today's technology projects, a specific engineering or development project requires a written design specification. This document details tasks, features, functions, timelines, resources, budgets, and the other components of a project - it is the complete roadmap for project managers, engineers, and developers.
Step 2 - Build the Digital Infrastructure
The successful use of technology requires a solid chassis - a rigid and reliable backbone of wiring, connections, switches, software, servers, and workstations. We want to leave nothing to chance when deploying a new or upgraded backbone for our clients, so we proceed like this:
- Bench Test. When the target hardware and connectivity solution has been identified, we set up a sample configuration in our test lab and bench test the backbone. This helps us to determine the reliability of the integrated solution and allows us to research and document the correct deployment steps.
- Prototype. A prototype involves expanding the test lab version of the backbone to more appropriately resemble the final solution. For example, at this step we may: add and test backup and failover components; install and test databases and/or commercial or custom applications for compliance on the backbone; and, performance test the integrated solution to determine limits and limitations.
- Limited Deployment. We don't encourage any client to 'bet the farm' on a wholesale rollout of a new technology or upgrade. Instead, we'd rather use a limited deployment to test a revised architecture within a workgroup or single facility. This allows for a live test in the client's business without exposing the entire business to the downside risk of a component or feature's failure to perform as expected. Think of this step as a 'parallel test', a process you may have seen utilized when installing a new accounting system that runs the old and new systems in parallel for a relevant test period.
- Rollout. A full-scale technology rollout must be managed tightly in order to ensure the minimum amount of productivity loss or downtime for the client. The key to success in this step is resource management and the correct implementation of the lessons learned from the prior three infrastructure steps.
Step 3 - Manage -Make sure the digital structure is working
